About the IOM Tajikistan Counter Trafficking Unit

The IOM Counter Trafficking Unit (CTU) works to combat trafficking in persons (TiPs) in Tajikistan. Its efforts are made possible through the work of its professional and dedicated staff as well as the support and assistance of the government of Tajikistan and donor agencies whose interest and participation in such activities seem to be growing.

Since commencement of its counter-trafficking programs in Tajikistan in 2003, IOM has focused on prevention, protection, rehabilitation and reintegration of victims of trafficking (VoTs), and great strides have been made. Prosecution of the criminal groups who profit from victim exploitation will require greater effort and cooperation between Tajikistan’s state structures and is a crucial part of reducing the number of TiPs-related crimes.

Building on our individual commitment and global presence, IOM works to strengthen the capacities of our partners in government and civil society and to set operational standards and achieve sustainable results by:

  • providing protection and empowering trafficked women, men, girls and boys
  • raising awareness and understanding of the issue
  • bringing justice to trafficked persons
